Reimagining an implement humanity has relied upon since ancient times, the Tondo Mortar & Pestle by Design House Stockholm transforms a familiar kitchen essential into a striking sculptural object. Designed by Jessika Källeskog, the piece invites a calmer, more deliberate motion into daily rituals, proving that a tool can be both purely functional and quietly beautiful.

Crafted from Bianco Carrara Venato marble, the Tondo pairs a substantial, tactile weight of 2 kg with a smooth, cool surface that ages gracefully with use. The ring-shaped mortar measures Ø14 × D 3.8 cm, set upon a solid base of W21 × L5.6 × H3.8 cm, giving the piece a grounded, architectural presence on any countertop.

Despite its sculptural silhouette, the Tondo performs with genuine precision. Its form allows for a controlled, tactile grinding motion — when working with black pepper or other spices, you can actually feel the peppercorns break down, allowing you to fine-tune the coarseness to your preference.
