Design House Stockholm Björk Rug

The Björk Rug by Design House Stockholm brings a piece of Scandinavian nature into the home, drawing its character from the birch tree that grows throughout Sweden. Designed by Lena Bergström in 2009, the rug translates the black and white pattern of birch bark into a woven textile, with the leather edging representing the inner layer of the bark itself. The result is a quiet, poetic surface that feels as natural and enduring as stone or wood.

Crafted from a wool weft with a cotton warp, the Björk Rug is finished with edging and handles in genuine leather. The marbled, textured effect is created by intertwining differently coloured wool yarns, giving each rug a unique and organic surface. Woven entirely by hand in India, no two rugs are exactly alike — subtle variations in pattern and in the whiteness of the wool, which depends on the time of year the sheep are sheared, are part of its handcrafted charm. Wool also brings natural resistance to soiling, thanks to its inherent oils, making the rug both beautiful and practical for everyday use.

The Björk Rug is available in Light Grey, Beige, Brown, and Dark Grey, and in sizes 70x130 cm, 80x250 cm, 170x240 cm, and 200x300 cm, allowing it to suit a range of interiors from hallways to living rooms.
